The Defense Industrial Base in an Era of Strategic Competition
The Defense Industrial Base plays a vital role in the way the United States approaches defense and national security policy. Coordination between the Department of Defense and the industrial base on research, development, manufacturing, and procurement keeps the United States on the cutting edge of warfighting and armed service capabilities. However, the current conflict in Ukraine and growing concerns over a potential conflict with China have raised serious questions about the ability of the industrial base to provide the needed support in an era of renewed great power competition. The defense industrial base not only contributes to the security of the United States but also to our allies who rely on American defense manufacturing to bolster their own military capabilities.
This one-day, in-person bootcamp course exclusively for Congressional staff will breakdown the many components of the Defense Industrial Base, the role of the private sector in national security, and how each arm of this group collaborates on military readiness. During the bootcamp, you will have the opportunity to hear from experts in the CSIS International Security Program and Defense-Industrial Initiatives Group, former U.S. officials, representatives from the defense community, and other experts.
